I have been living in Mexico for the last 7 months.I am a american and I dont have a job so I can't get any other visa. I have returned to the states once allready and after returning you are allowed get an extension a couple times only. I was told if I went to Belize for the day and returned back to Mexico that would start my Visa statice all over.

hello,

i assume you are in playa or in cancun.your existing visa can be extended up to 180 days in total at the immigration office.the only requirement is an international major credit card in your name or a certain amount of cash to show.(i think it is a 1000U$ per 30 days).they don't charge anything...you only show it.they want to make sure you are able to live on your own for that period of time.in playa they are located in "plaza antigua",second floor (at the entrance to playacar).in cancun they are at the corner of avenida uxmal and avenida nader.very close to av.tulum and the bus-station.after that 180 days there are no further extensions possible and you have to leave the country.no big deal...go to the border to belize into the free-zone...go shopping,go to the casino and come back with a new visa and start all over again.

greetings,

sorry for any misspelling.....i'm german
Reply:Yes, if you leave the country for whatever amount of days Mexico requires, you start off with a new visa each time you enter Mexico. This is not an extension, but starts the clock all over again.
Reply:Sounds like you need to go to the immigration office and apply for an Fm3...costs about $143.00, need to renew it once a year IN MEXICO at nearest immigration office...much better than constantly going to the border to renew the tourist visa. To get an FM3 you must prove you have enough income from a pension or something to live on in Mexico. i am an Ameican living in Veracruz. Most retired Americans have an FM3. however i do know some who have lived here for years and go back to the border every 6 months to renew their tourist visa...but what a nuisance.
Reply:just stay there illegally...fair is fair...one illegal American in Mexico...11 million illegal Mexicans in America
